Assistant Chief Deputy Carl Shaw, JD
Assistant Chief Carl Shaw has been a law enforcement officer for over 32 years. He joined the Precinct One Constable’s Office in 2013. He is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and supervision of the Downtown Courthouse Complex Operations Division and Civil Division. Chief Shaw also manages Public Information Act (PIA) requests and subpoenas and serves as the department’s Custodian of Records. Chief Shaw plans, assigns and supervises the activities of law enforcement personnel within those divisions. Chief Shaw also interviews, recommends for hire, plans, assigns and directs work. He appraises deputy performance and rewards and disciplines employees in addition to addressing complaints and overcoming obstacles. Chief Shaw maintains oversight of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force members and Citizens Police Academy (CPA). Additionally, he serves as the Precinct One Constable’s Office legal liaison to the Harris County Attorney’s Office, facilitating resolution of matters of legal concern. Chief Shaw also chairs the committee over building security for the Downtown Courthouse Complex and sits on the Courthouse Complex Solutions Committee, helping coordinate the ongoing effort to return to the Criminal Justice Center and other county buildings back to normal operations prior to the effects of Hurricane Harvey. He also assists with mitigating the challenges associated with moving various constituents and resources throughout the Downtown Courthouse Complex and surrounding area.
